There are twelve. A dozen times a year climb the 144 stairs to the Sigismund Tower, to take in hand the ropes and swing the bell of kings and the king of bells - the largest and most famous Polish bell - "Zygmunt". He speaks in the most holy church and state: the New Year, on Epiphany, Easter, Corpus Christi, Assumption, Ascension and Christmas; 3 May and Independence Day and during the procession of Saint Stanislaus. All of the bell tower are extremely proud of their classes, after all, belong to the elite.
Once the duties bell-righteous permanent employees of the Wawel Royal Castle. Today, the Thomas heads the Bochnak, who took over the function of his father, one of the few people born ... the Wawel. With the ropes "Zygmunt" there are twelve, but for the brotherhood of bell-ringers should be a total of about thirty people. In civilian life are directors of companies, art historians, architects, pupils and students.
The real raisins in their group is Mrs. Barbara Skipper, an art historian at the National Museum. Honorary Dzwonnikiem was Pope John Paul II, who wrote to Krakow's bell-ringers "Ringing Zygmunt is the greatest prayer, worship and respect of Polish history." Calling time is usually a few to several minutes, depending on the event. The voice of the king "Zygmunt" carries then at a distance of several kilometers.
